Tideborne Dominion

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Tideborne Dominion asks you to raise a seafaring nation from a single fishing village, and it's one of the few mobile strategy games I've played that doesn't nag you to log in every hour. Everything runs on real planning: you balance food, timber and tide-energy, and the ocean itself shifts your trade routes between seasons.

Combat is a side dish, not the main course. You can fortify and defend, but the real game is routing ships efficiently and deciding when to colonize a new island. The map is hand-drawn and lovely, and the interface manages to show a lot of information without becoming a mess of tiny buttons.

It demands patience, and if you want constant action this isn't it. But as a slow strategic puzzle to chew on over a couple of weeks, it's excellent.
